The history of Israel in the last period of the judges is narrated when "each one did what was right in his own eyes". It begins by showing the failure of the priesthood, but at the prayers of a believing woman, God raised up a prophet named Samuel, who would promote the spiritual renewal of the nation. As Samuel grew older, the people requested a king, and despite their reluctance, God granted them Saul. From then on, Israel was ruled by a monarchy. However, after Saul's failure, God established a king after His own heart: King David, ancestor of the Lord Jesus Christ.
