This book is a collection of scholarly articles presenting the research results of work carried out under the supervision of Prof. Saroj Bhosle, a microbiologist at Goa University, India. The objective of this volume is to document the comprehensive ecological knowledge of eubacteria isolated from diverse coastal ecosystems of Goa, little explored for microbiological studies. These ecosystems need to be properly tapped in order to reveal potential bacteria yet to be exploited. The topics of this book are particularly relevant to researchers and students in the field of microbiology with an interest in the varied aspects of eubacteria. They provide academic insight for scientific communities in Goa and the rest of the world.
Dr. Sunita Borkar, Associate Prof. and Head, Department of Microbiology, P.E,S.S.R.S.N. College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa started with the Department of Microbiology at the same college in 1989 as Lecturer after M.Sc. from Bombay University and became Associate Prof. in 2006. She obtained her Doctoral degree in 2003 during her teaching tenure from Goa University. She worked on “Studies on Alkaliphiles - An Industrially Significant group of Extremophiles” under the able guidance of Prof. Saroj Bhosle. She has 27 years of teaching and research experience and guided project work of 40 undergraduate students, 2 Ph.D scholars as co-guide and 1 M.Phil. student. She has to her credit 3 Minor Research Projects funded by UGC and 1 Major Research Project funded by Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Her major research interests encompass Diversity of Alkaliphilic Bacteria, Bioremediation, Phosphate Solubilisation, and PGPR. Dr. Borkar has participated and presented several research papers at National and International conferences and symposia and published research papers and articles related to her research interest. She is a life member of Association of Microbiologists of India and has received Carmelite Award as the best outgoing graduate student.
