Autorenporträt

Andy Brown was born, bred and educated in Lancashire, but now lives in Norfolk with his wife Sue and twins Isabel and Leo. Andy gained his zoology degree and his PhD at Liverpool University. After a spell as a freshwater ecologist, he took up a post leading moorland bird surveys for the Nature Conservancy Council in 1989, enabling him to use his lifelong passion for birds to earn a living.

He has been Head of Ornithology at English Nature since 1992, with a remit that covers all aspects of bird conservation, from studies of the habitat requirements of Twite in the Pennines to advising on the likely impacts of potentially damaging developments on special sites for birds. He has published more than 30 scientific papers on birds, and many other reports and notes. Away from work, he spends as much time as possible birding, preferably in Norfolk or South America.
