When I was a little boy, I became convinced that if the Good News of Jesus Christ is true, then it makes sense to make it the focus of one's whole life. From my perspective, after a lifetime of service to the Church of Jesus Christ, I contend I was right so to live, according to the sense of call God placed on me. 'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life' (John 3:16). No greater privilege exists than to give one's life to that which is not only true, but filled with life-giving grace, now and always. In this memoir, I have written about experiences, learning, and insights from a life-long leadership journey as a husband, parent, and pastor. Therefore, much of the content emerges from leading in the world of church. I am persuaded that the learning is applicable to other walks of life. I hope the reader will find encouragement along the way. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to share my journey with others, hoping to be a blessing to them. -Rick Veenstra Rick Veenstra was born in Chicago, IL, in 1947, graduated from Hope College in 1969, and Western/New Brunswick Theological Seminaries in 1972. He served as a lead pastor, transition pastor, and regional executive in the Reformed Church in America for 45 years, retiring in 2017. Rick married Kathy DeWitt in 1969, and together they have four married children, 11 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. They now live in Ferrysburg, MI.
