Autorenporträt
At the age of six, Ottavio arrived from Italy in 1927 as a citizen of the United States, derived from his father's naturalization papers. He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, just in time, in 1942, to join the U.S. Navy as an ensign. He served as an Ordnance and Gunnery Officer and Officer of the Deck on the USS Lexington for two years. After that he served as an instructor in naval weapons systems until he was released to inactive duty in 1946 as a Naval Reserve Lieutenant. Reserve duty after the war earned him a promotion to Lieutenant Commander and he officially retired from the Navy in 1962. He worked at an engineering services company for 45 years, and retired in 1991. He now resides in Denver, Colorado, with his wife, Dorothy.
