At the age of 49, Ohio-born J. Herman Hardebeck had earned a gilt-edged reputation as a real estate developer in Kankakee. He is a life member and past president of the Bourbonnais Grove Historical Society and editor of its newsletter, Le Journal du Village. Johnson has written many articles and three books on Kankakee County history.
