This book explores the molecular mechanisms of iron hemostasis in the brain and discusses the cognitive and behavioral implications of iron deficiency. It presents the effect of iron dysregulation on neurophysiological mechanisms. The book provides an overview of iron metabolism and homeostasis at the cellular level and its regulation at the mRNA translation level. It emphasizes the importance of iron for brain development in fetal and early life in preterm infants. Further, it presents iron metabolism as a therapeutic target for novel pharmacological treatment against neurodevelopmental…mehr
Further, it presents iron metabolism as a therapeutic target for novel pharmacological treatment against neurodevelopmental diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. It discusses the role of iron deficiency in sleep disorders and offers diagnosis and treatment of iron-related CNS diseases. Finally, it relates dysregulated expression of iron-related genes in brain tumors.
Dr. Mohamed is a Psychiatrist Neuroscientist. He is leading a research team in Egypt for translational brain research focusing on neurodegenerative disorders, animal models, and clinical trials. His research interests are focused on understanding neurological disease. Dr. Mohamed got his Ph.D. from PSU, USA, and is currently working as an Assistant Professor in IIUM Medical School, Malaysia. He has published over 64 peer-reviewed research articles related to Neuroscience/Psychiatry. Moreover, He authored for Springer, Taylor and Francis, and Elsevier i.e., 6 books and many book chapters on nutritional neuroscience & Neurodegenerative Disorders.
Prof Kostrzewa is working as a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at James H. Quillen College of Medicine. His interests focus on highly selective neurotoxins as the tools to uncover the ontogeny of monoaminergic systems in the brain and study nerve regeneration. He is involved in studying the reactive elements of one neuronal phenotype subsequent to the destruction of an alternate neuronal phenotype. He is an Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neurotoxicity Researchand Editor-in-Chief of the 2nd edition of the Handbook of Neurotoxicity.
Dr. Nicola Luigi Bragazzi got his MD in general medicine and surgery from Genoa University (Genoa, Italy) in 2011, his Ph.D. in biophysics from Marburg University (Marburg, Germany) in 2014, and his specialization in Public Health from Genoa University (Genoa, Italy) in 2017. He is a member of the Cochrane Association (Cochrane Reviewer) for the Cochrane Epilepsy Group. President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi awarded him Young Knight of the Italian Republic in 2005. Recently, in 2019, he has been nominated as one of the top five biomedical researchers worldwide aged less than 40 years in terms of several publications, articles in Q1 biomedical journals. He is currently working on infectious disease and vaccination modeling and extensive data mining in biomedicine at York University
