Buddha and a Boat is the second autobiographical novel in the Anchors in An Open Sea trilogy by Dyana Wells. Alice and family return to their sailing, cycling and back-packing adventures through Vanuatu, New Caledonia and back to New Zealand. This time there are life-defining intersections to be navigated. What drives the desire for mystical experience? What is this human life? These are some of the questions explored by Alice and her family.
We also see Alice as an older woman - softer and wiser - supporting her children, now with children of their own. She radiates a deeper perspective.
We don't know how she did it, or exactly what it means, but we do see that she is different and that she has something to share. Dyana Wells trained in the natural sciences before changing direction to Western philosophy and then, in her early thirties, she met her first spiritual teacher and dived deeply into meditation and Eastern perspectives. She is a keen lover of the natural world and many of her deepest insights about life have come while journeying in nature.
