I have enjoyed and benefited from this routine for many years. It is a great way to let people know you are a magician.
My grandfather was a tailor. I grew up in his tailor shop. You can believe me when I tell you that it is virtually impossible to bite a button off a coat. Try it; you're going to be there for a while, I promise you that!
This trick rises and falls upon the spectator believing its' his button.
You must set him up to believe what you want him to believe. I'll teach you how to do this.
My original investigations of the routine led me to Malini and Scarne. After years of studying with Slydini I found the explanations offered vague; to say the least. I'd read how Malini created a sensation with this trick. I believe it was to his ethic of advanced preparation.
My 10-page manuscript contains instructional photographs and my description for producing the sound of the thread snapping as the button is ripped form the coat.
This a powerful lesson on how advanced preparation will enable you to perform a seemingly impromptu miracle. All you need is a button with some thread sewn through the button holes.
I will give you some suggestions on how to turn this into an 'simple trick' into a miracle for the person you work it on.
For reasons that will be had clear in the manuscript you will need to be wearing a suit jacket, a sport jacket, or a shirt with a pocket on your left side.
