"Captain of the 1st rank" is the novel of the Soviet seascape writer Alexei Silych Novikov-Priboi (1877-1944), who participated in the Battle of Tsushima, when the Russian squadron was defeated by the Japanese fleet. The main character of the novel is the Russian sailor Zakhar Psaltyrev. He has all the qualities to serve in the tsarist fleet, strong-willed and gifted in nature, but to become a commander of a Soviet ship, he must go through many tests ... The series "Russian Historical Novel" includes works by such Russian writers as E. Salias, N. Breshko-Breshkovsky, V. Bryusov, G. Danilevsky, I. Goncharov, I. Lukash, A. Veltman, M. Zagoskin, V. Aristov, A.S. Pushkin, N.V. Gogol, and many others.
