A murder, attempted rape, knife wielding thugs? Yes, all of this is part of Carrie's Song, a life lived in 1890s Nashville. Her experience is anything but retiring. She's trying to graduate from Fisk University 30 years after slavery has ended. But all these dangerous events keep getting in the way! Carrie wants to see the lynching of people of Color stopped and for women to get the right to vote. She's a foot soldier for change in the middle of one of the most volatile points in U.S. history. But among it all she loves her music, and she plays the piano and violin for anyone who will listen. Her budding romance with Edward creates conflicts when he heads for the Spanish American War.
