"Lesya Ukrainka (Larysa Petrivna Kosach) is a Ukrainian writer, translator, cultural activist. She wrote in the genre of poetry, lyric, epic, drama, prose, journalism. She also worked in the field of folkloristics (220 folk melodies were recorded from her voice). The first mention of the drama "Cassandra" is found in the poet's letter to Olga Kobylyanska dated November 14, 1903 from San Remo. In it, Lesya Ukrainka explained that she chose Vishchunka as the heroine of the new work because "this tragic prophetess, with her unrecognized Truth, with her vain prophetic talent, is actually such a restless and passionate type: she foresees disaster and prophesies it, and no one can help her does not believe, because although she tells the truth, but not as people should; she knows that no one will believe her like that, but she doesn't know how to say otherwise..." Lesya Ukrainka's Cassandra is written more deeply and voluminously than Aeschylus. The heroine has the feelings of an ordinary person: she doubts and hesitates, seeks to find the truth, suffers and submits to her fate. Lesya Ukrainka wrote drama during 1903-1907 pp.
