By reading the poems included in this collection, we will easily witness how important the relationship with the Other is, and how this contact should be longed for and attained sooner or later. This contact is often eased off by rites, traditions, feasts. As I once said: ‘good habits are like those friends you pay visit to, to spend some good time together’. So, I meant Christmas, New Year’s Eve and all those times that allow us to take stock of where we are and where we have gotten. As a matter of fact, in the time that goes by can be found all it takes and all that is part of our life: ambitions, expectations, regrets and new objectives for the next year.
Another topic that gains momentum in this collection is wistfulness. When we reach happiness and we can feel at ease with ourselves and our world, this feeling can start to peep out at us. It links our soul with the places where we used to feel good. This feeling can be found in this book so many times, gaining the shape of a beacon that can guide us through the night. Our wistfulness can act as a compass able to guide and show us how to either go away or to get back to the place where we used to live and feel best.
All these shades can take on different colors but they all find in love the real and only power able to connect wo(men) with the most intimate part of their soul. All images offered by Valeri are based on this power. Memories in a box is a valuable gift for readers, whom we ask to carefully read her poems, with a feeling of gratitude.
