"We all knew catastrophe loomed. We just didn't believe it would happen this way" (anonymous). Certain Death One is about a wildfire, not the kind that kills trees, or burns through the human population like a pandemic or message of hate. Produktbeschreibung
"We all knew catastrophe loomed. We just didn't believe it would happen this way" (anonymous). Certain Death One is about a wildfire, not the kind that kills trees, or burns through the human population like a pandemic or message of hate. It is human-made, by accident and, if it escapes, will destroy all life within thirty miles. It is slowly eating its way through an experimental rail tank car in the most densely populated area of the United States, and nobody knows whether it's a gas, a virus or something else that defies description. Certain Death One chronicles a race against time covering a period of fourteen hours, and three men are about to be thrown together to face this most terrifying challenge in human history, the transportation and neutralization of an ecological horror. They are William Jeremiah, former superstar of the covert Special Operations branch of the CIA, who desperately seeks redemption while fighting an emotional breakdown; Carl Bzynski, a friendless, divorced bigot, who also happens to be the most experienced engineer in the state of New Jersey; and Hosea Bethea, a diminutive African-American soldier honing skills that may save millions. Together, they must face the unrelenting threat of a Category Four hurricane and a band of terrorists that is bent on destroying the train.

Autorenporträt
Now living in Indiana with his wife who is a Hoosier, Rich Van Doren is a New Jersey "boy" born and raised. He graduated from Highland Park High School, Hope College in Holland, MI (BA in English), New Brunswick (NJ) Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity) and Drew University, Madison, NJ (Master of Philosophy in English Literature). He served as a pastoral minister for over twent years and a community college instructor in composition and literature for five. Rich is involuntarily retired due to neuropathy in his legs, which has enabled him to concentrate on one of his premier loves: creative writing. "I've always been fascinated by the 'fringe' element in our culture, which has served as the primary inspiration behind my creations. I read about a hundred books a year; many of the writers are better than I could hope to be, but I'm as good as most of those I've read. I believe a novel or short story should first be entertaining, at least somewhat educational and, if possible, inspiring. I try to include all of these ingredients in everything I write. In truth, I write for myself, first. I've got to like it before I'll set it free. I guarantee you will enjoy my work. (If you don't, well, I'm sure you can find me.) It's more important to me that people read my books than it is to make money at it. Of course, I'd like to pocket something from these efforts, but I've set my price very low and chosen to publish only in eBook format to reach the largest possible audience (at the most manageable expense). Please give me a try. What have you got to lose?"
