This is an important book in many aspects, perhaps the most important of which is that it is the first complete Arabic study on the pioneer of the contemporary international novel, Miguel de Cervantes, and it was written by two of the pioneers of early Spanish studies in our Arab world, the writers and translators Dr. Naguib Abu Mulham and Dr. Musa Abboud. It is the first critical book written about Cervantes in our Arabic language, as there is no previous definitional or critical effort on them except for what is scattered here and there of brief definitions and mentions in some yearbooks, magazines and newspapers, which do not constitute any importance in research and criticism. This in itself (in addition to the volume of the extensive study presented to the Arab reader and its abundant information), is a great precedent and a sign to them of the effort expended on it, the important theses, and the elaborate definitions to delve into the worlds of our genius writer, his many literary productions, and his relationship with our Arab worlds, both East and West. Perhaps its primary purpose was that indication of the proximity of Cervantes' worlds and his life to an important period of the Arab presence in Spain and its repercussions on him personally and on all of his poetic, theatrical, and novel writings that opened the path to world literature with richness, diversity, and innovation.
