Authors Candeloro and Paul are well known in Chicago Heights as professional historians and preservationists. Dominic Candeloro is a former professor and writer, and currently serves as the assistant to the mayor. Barbara Paul, director of the Public Library, has spent 30 years researching and collecting materials relating to the city's history. In Chicago Heights, Candeloro and Paul have combined their own images and knowledge with that of local residents to create the city's most comprehensive and thorough history to date, representing a community's effort to celebrate its shared past.
