Developing countries and industrialized countries have different priorities in relation to Non Trade Concerns (NTCs). A key challenge therefore is how to balance developed countries' right to seek the levels of protection of societal values that they deem appropriate, while minimising the negative trade effect of this for their developing trading partners. Amongst the new emerging economies, China is already playing a key role in this area.
