Produktbeschreibung
It is well recognized that blood could be the optimal site for evaluating cancer, allowing easy and repeated access for determining prognosis, establishing molecular targets, evaluating the efficacy of therapy, detecting the earliest signs of recurrence, and even detecting cancer at its earliest and most curable stages. The analysis of cancer through blood samples is now known as the liquid biopsy and has been a rich source of research and clinical application. There has been an explosion of interest and progress in liquid biopsy technologies since the first edition of this book. The second edition will expand its focus to now include not only circulating tumor cells (CTC), but also other emerging aspects of the liquid biopsy, including circulating tumor DNA and methylated DNA (ctDNA, ct meDNA), ctRNA, ct miRNA, circulating tumor proteins (and other) biomarkers and circulating tumor derived exosomes (ctExosomes).

Cote, M.D., FRCPath, FCAP, is the Edward Mallinckrodt Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine and Pathologist-in-Chief at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Cote is a pioneer in the field of liquid biopsy, having first established it in the US in the 1980s, and has been an innovator since that time. He is a member of the National Cancer Institute/NIH funded Liquid Biopsy Consortium and is an advisor to President Biden's Moonshot Program to develop new ways to detect early-stage cancer through liquid biopsy technologies. He also serves as a member and advisor to a large number of national and international study groups, cancer programs and societies, including the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Cote has received numerous honors and awards, including induction into the National Academy of Inventors based in part on his development of new CTC and liquid biopsy technologies. Heis the author of more than 300 scientific papers, book chapters and books. Evi Lianidou, Ph.D. is Professor of Analytical and Clinical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her lab, established in 1998, is focused on liquid biopsy specializing in the Analysis of Circulating Tumor Cells. Dr. Lianidou is the founder and co-organizer of the Advances in Circulating Tumor Cells (ACTC) series of international meetings, held in Greece. Dr. Lianidou is a member of the Board of the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR), PI in the European TRANSCAN group "CTC-SCAN" and "PROLIPSY" and the EU IMI Network Project "CANCER-ID". Dr. Lianidou has served as an elected member and chair of the C-CMBC committee of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) and is currently an elected member of the IFCC committee on Proficiency Testing (C-PT). She has published over 170 scientific papers and book chapters, mostof them on liquid biopsy.
