Professor Ada Logan is wrestling with her new role as a mother. When Mayor Roberts orders the lead detective to back down from the investigation, Ada and Pilar step in. Sometimes collaborating, often clashing, the two women join forces to uncover the truth behind Alex Sánchez's death. In the process, they uncover the complex secrets of their neighbourhood and their city.

Lisa Bush is a writer, educator, and storyteller. Lisa is the author of Teaching Well: How healthy, empowered teachers lead to thriving, successful classrooms, City Hall, and The District. Lisa is a members of Sisters in Crime, Crime Writers of Canada, Alberta Writer's Guild, and the Alexandra Writers' Centre. She, along with her husband and two children, live Calgary, the ancestral and traditional Indigenous territories of the Blackfoot and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuu T'ina and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations.
