Appreciation of the importance of platelets and coagulation factors in therothrombotic events has led to the continuous development of new antithrombotic agents. Understanding the basic principles of atherothrombosis as well as the pharmacological agents currently available or under development are key to the successful treatment of patients with atherothrombotic manifestations. This volume examines the pharmacological principles, indications for use, and pitfalls of antithrombotic agents most commonly utilized in treating patients with coronary artery disease. It also describes special clinical scenarios which may call for a multi-pharmacological approach or which demonstrate undesired effects of antithrombotic agents.
