Actress, singer, musical theater star, gay icon: Liza Minnelli. Always citing the past but acting in present, her image is an oddity of the entertainment industry. Actress, singer, musical theater star, gay icon: Liza Minnelli. Always citing the past but acting in present, her image is an oddity of the entertainment industry. Private background and acting roles flow together in the case of Minnelli, who was born into the American show business in 1946. But she is more than Cabaret, Great American Songbook, Broadway and drag model. This book is neither another sentimental biography of her so-called tragic private life nor a pure scientific examination. It simply aims to analyze her single fields of work in theater, film, television, recording studio and on concert stage, which all perform together like a clockwork.

Autorenporträt
Martin Wimmer was born 1991 in Weißenfels/Saxony-Anhalt, and studied art history, creative writing, culture and media education and theater studies in Merseburg, Mainz and Berlin. Always highly interested in the history of American film and theater as well as in the interwoven star system, he wrote Clockwork Liza during his studies in Mainz just for fun and self-published its original German edition by Books on Demand in 2018. This long overdue English-language edition was made possible by the active support of three wonderful people named Adrienne, Debo and Matt. They critically proofread the translation, suggested refinements and rephrased some of the weaker sentences. Blessings and kisses to them! Follow Martin on Twitter: @reckwitzig, and tweet something nice about legendary #LizaMinnelli!
