This work constitutes a critical edition and translation of the Risala al-mujaza al-kafiya fi adab al-ducat (A Brief and Concise Epistle on the Etiquette of the Summoners), which was written by the Fatimid author Ahmad b. Ibrahim al-Naysaburi (5th/11th century). The Risala al-mujaza constitutes the only extant work in all of Ismaili literature that deals with specific aspects of the da'wa, representing a normative guideline for Ismaili da'is. These guidelines articulate the ideals of attributes and norms of behaviour for a da'is. As the Risala conveys the ideal type of a da'wa programme, it fluctuates between spiritual and historical spheres and is marked by both dimensions. In addition to theological basic principles of da'wa, various religious and social aspects of a da'is practical work are elucidated. This work provides insights in terms of the historicity and actual practices of the Fatimid da'wa and its agents, the da'is.
