This Collection of Favorite Memories has given us time to remember and reflect on our parents; and to think deeply on the changes that death has brought. We have hope for the future as our parents and siblings live on in our hearts and in our combined memories. We have a treasure of our favorite memories that come alive each time we open the collection and read a few of them. We, seven of eight girls, are the only children left of our parents. As we talk to each other, we laugh and smile, while recalling both sweet and bitter memories of our family. We realized that we needed each other's help…mehr
We realized that we needed each other's help to reconstruct and validate the events, people, and places as we wrote about memories from years ago. Sometimes we corroborated each other's memories; other times we corrected the memories of each other and in the process we have created a more accurate treasury of family memories. I am greatly indebted to Bettye, Gloria, Sybil, Mary, Martha and Charlotte. Without their contributions, the book would not have materialized.

Barbara was educated in the segregated public schools of Mississippi as well as college. She earned a B.S. degree in music education at MS Valley State College. She began teaching music in a public school in Collins, Mississippi in August, 1969. January, 1970 began with the sudden integration of the public schools. The upheaval resulted in a short music teaching career. She enrolled in a graduate program for teaching reading at the University of Southern MS. That was followed by five years of teaching in Pennsylvania.Upon her return to Mississippi, she began a doctoral program in early childhood education at Jackson State University. After graduating with an Ed.D., she began a college teaching career, then moved to the eastern shore of Maryland with her husband where they both taught in different colleges. Retirement has given Barbara time for reading and writing stories, solving puzzles, teaching private piano lessons, and exercising at home to stay active.
