Arynes have been important, well-recognized reactive intermediates in organic chemistry since the first speculation of their existence at the beginning of the 20th century. In recent years, synthetic chemistry with arynes has experienced a remarkable revival, leading to diverse new reactions that provide convenient and direct access to various aromatic compounds of high synthetic significance. Comprehensive Aryne Synthetic Chemistry summarizes the progress in the synthetic utilization of arynes for noncatalytic and transition metal-catalyzed reactions developed in the last 20 years. The book covers a broad range of topics including methods of generating arynes, regioselectivity, electrophilic couplings, pericyclic reactions, transition metal-catalyzed reactions, and cycloadditions. It is ideal for advanced students and researchers working in synthetic organic chemistry in academia and industry.

  • Presents an overview of aryne synthetic chemistry, which has experienced a remarkable revival in the 21st century
  • Provides a systematic classification of reactions with arynes
  • Includes comprehensive descriptions of synthetic utilization of arynes ranging from noncatalytic to transition metal-catalyzed reactions
  • Features systematically organized reaction modes and the aromatic compounds formed from these reactions

Hiroto Yoshida graduated from Kyoto University in 1996 and received his Ph.D. from Kyoto University under the supervision of Professors Eiji Shirakawa and Tamejiro Hiyama in 2001. He then became an Assistant Professor at Hiroshima University in 2001 and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2006, and a Full Professor in 2020. He received BCSJ Award (2001), Japan Combinatorial Chemistry Focus Group Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (2005), Tetrahedron Letters Most Cited Paper 2003-2006 Award (2006), The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Young Chemists (2007), The Society of Silicon Chemistry Award for Young Chemists (2008), and The Young Scientists' Prize, The Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2009). He published more than 100 papers/reviews and 6 book chapters. His research interests include (1) aryne-based organic synthesis, (2) catalytic reactions for synthesis of main group organomet

allics containing boron, tin or silicon, and (3) main group organometallics-based organic synthesis.
