This book covers topics related to developing natural-fiber composite products during the conceptual design stage in the product development process. It describes the concurrent engineering methods and tools applied in natural-fiber composite product development and discusses the major conceptual design activities, such as geometrical conceptual design development and selection, materials selection and manufacturing process selection. The book also includes case studies with illustrations on the related conceptual design aspects of developing natural-fiber composite products to provide designers with practical guidance on applying the selected tool for their project.
Professor Mohd Sapuan Salit is currently a professor of composite materials at the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. He is also the head of the Composite Technology Research Program at the UPM. Professor Mohd Sapuan is the vice president and honorary member of the Asian Polymer Association, and a fellow of the Plastics and Rubber Institute, Malaysia (PRIM), Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM), and Malaysian Scientific Association (FMSA). He has successfully supervised 60 PhD and 50 MS students. To date, he has authored or co-authored more than 570 journal papers, as well as 580 seminar and conference papers. He has also authored/co-authored more than 75 book chapters and authored/edited more than 20 books. Professor Mohd Sapuan was the recipient of the Society of Automotive Engineers (Malaysia) Outstanding Technical Paper Award; National Book Award; ISESCO Science Award; Rotary Research Award; PRIM Fellowship Award; Forest Research Institute, Malaysia Publication Award; Vice Chancellor Fellowship Prize, UPM; Alumni Award, University of Newcastle, Australia; Khwarizmi International Award; Emerald Citations of Excellence Award; and Excellence Researcher Award, UPM. Dr Muhd Ridzuan Mansor is currently a senior lecturer at the Department of Automotive, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Malaysia. His current research interests include concurrent design, composite materials and advanced materials characterization. To date, he has successfully authored and co-authored more than 30 journal papers, 50 conference papers, and 6 book chapters. He is also a member div>div>of the Malaysian Design Council, as well as the Malaysia TRIZ Innovation Association (MyTRIZ) and is an International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ) Certified Level 3 Practitioner
