Autorenporträt

Joe Gores is the acclaimed author of the Dan Kearney and Associates private investigator novels set in San Francisco. Based on his personal experiences - he worked for twelve years as a PI and sleuth - Gores' novels are characterised by a fierce authenticity, often passing over the glamorous side of detective work for the humdrum labour it actually involves. His crime writing reputation was sealed with the publication of the first DKA Files novel Dead Skip in 1972. Over the course of his career, Joe Gores won several accolades, including being one of only three writers to win Edgar Awards in three separate categories. He also won the Private Eye Writers of America Lifetime Achievement Award, and was elected President of the Mystery Writers of America. Gores is frequently compared favourably to the other great San Francisco detective writer, Dashiell Hammett, and Gores himself cites Hammett as a major influence on his work (Gores' novel Spade & Archer is the official prequel to The Maltese Falcon). Gores' death in 2011 came fifty years to the day after that of Hammett's.
