In this way individuals find a common language despite the divisions of race and class that continue to plague the South. The rich subject of southern fare serves up a significant starting point for understanding the powerful rhetorical potential of all food.

She is coauthor of Global Public Relations: Spanning Borders, Spanning Cultures. Wendy Atkins-Sayre is associate professor in communication studies and the director of the Speaking Center at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is coeditor of Communicating Advice: Peer Tutoring and Communication Practice.
