Dana Desonie, Ph.D., a full-time science writer, was previously a research scientist in geochemistry at Columbia University's Lamon-Doherty Earth Observatory. She makes her home in New York City.
David H. Levy, Eugene Shoemaker, and Carolyn Shoemaker are internationally renowned comet scientists. The Shoemakers hold world records for the discovery of new comets and, together with Dr. Levy, discovered comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, which collided with Jupiter in 1994.
