The future of passenger car cannot rely on internal combustion engine. Taking into account present state of the art technologies, the most obvious alternative is fuel cell. The article investigates the way and possibilities of progressive transfer from internal combustion engine to fuell cell based on the analysis of learning curve. Analysis is limited to German car market and takes into account experience of German car manufactures, who are well advanced in mastering fuel cell technology and experimental small scale production.
