Jamie, the protagonist and son of Scottish and American missionaries, grows up in a dusty market town, speaking the local language and playing soccer. He realizes he is American only after the JFK assassination. Jamie is sent to a missionary boarding school. His Sunday school faith is challenged by hard-hearted fundamentalists and the nastiness of little boys separated from their parents. His belief in the Bible is soon equaled by faith in the Fab Four. As he grows into puberty, the school is shaken to its foundations by rock, ganja, and a visit by two Black radical preachers.

Jamie's prophets are now Saints John, Paul, George, Ringo, and St. Bob of Hibbing. A first love expands his world, and he learns about the radical ideas sweeping the US. Anxious to join the changing wind, he travels from India and lands hard in a post-Kent State USA. Like Dylan's sailor in 115th Dream, Jamie is knocked off his feet by the harsh and alluring reality of America in a hurricane of change aka the Sixties. Then, with a little help from his friends and college professors, he finds direction and purpose.
