Kenneth L. Miller, M.S., CHP, is Professor of Radiology and Director, Division of Health Physics at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of the Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Since 1988 he has also been Director of the HMC/EPA/PDER Environmental Monitoring Laboratory, which performs environmental monitoring in the vicinity of the Three Mile Island Unit II. Ken received his B.S. in Education, with majors in mathematics, physics, and general science, in 1965 from the Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. In 1970 he received his M.S. degree in Hygiene, with a major in radiological health, from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is comprehensively certified in health physics by the American Board of Health Physics and in medical health physics by the American Board of Medical Physics. In 1966 Ken began his health physics career as Health Physics Assistant at the Pennsylvania State University. In 1971 he was appointed Director of Health Physics and Research Associate at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Since moving to the Hershey Medical Center he has presented over 150 papers and scientific exhibits at local, national, and international meetings, published nearly 60 papers dealing primarily with applied health physics topics, and authored/edited or co-authored 4 books and 6 booklets. He was Chairman of Task Group 6 of Scientific Committee 46 of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, which developed NCRP Report No. 105, and is a member of the NCRP Scientific Committee No. 77. He serves on numerous federal, state, and local advisory committees and is a member of numerous professional societies including the Health Physics Society, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and the American Nuclear Society. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Health Physics Society and the American Board of Health Physics. In 1982 he received the Elda E. Anderson Award from the Health Physics Society.
