This book integrates a broad range of scientific disciplines, from geodynamics and tectonics to earthquake physics, geodesy and seismology. This holistic approach supports a detailed investigation of the deformation and seismicity associated with mountain building processes and fault activity in the Earth's upper, brittle crust. New insights into these deformational processes on both earthquake cycle and geologic timescales are subsequently combined to improve our physical understanding of seismicity in mountain belts, which has a variety of potential applications in active tectonics studies and seismic hazard assessments.…mehr

Autorenporträt
Dr. Luca Dal Zilio is the Cecil & Sally Drinkward Post-Doctoral Fellow in Geophysics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). After completing his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Earth Science and Geophysics at the University of Padova (Italy), he received his Ph.D. in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). Dr. Dal Zilio's research focuses on earthquakes and mountain building processes. By combining theoretical, computational and observational approaches, his goal is to better grasp the seismic behavior in orogenic mountain belts. He was recently selected for Nature Geoscience's 2018 Best Geostory Award.
