Emma smiled, her cheeks flushed from both the setting sun and his genuine interest. "Well, I've always had a passion for creating something out of nothing. Cooking is like magic to me. What about you?"

Kai leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his tousled hair. "I grew up watching my grandmother cook traditional dishes from our homeland. It was like she poured her love into every dish she made. I wanted to carry on that legacy."

Emma's eyes lit up with admiration. "That's beautiful. Family recipes are such treasures." She reached for a platter of sushi rolls, crafted with precision and care, and offered one to Kai.

He accepted it with a grateful smile before adding, "Your sushi is amazing, Emma. The flavors are perfection."

I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others.
