Autorenporträt
Adam Holbrook was born in Lima, Ohio and grew up on a farm near the village of Westminster, Ohio. Adam began writing at the age of fifteen years and worked as a photographer and writer for several Lima area newspapers. After high school Adam enlisted in the military and served as a Psychiatric Ward Specialist at Keesler Air Force base in Biloxi, Mississippi. Adam has himself suffered from schizophrenia since early 1974. After bouts with mental illness, alcoholism, drug dependence and many psychiatric hospitalizations, Mr. Holbrook has recovered to the point of authoring the three books which are featured on this site. At this time he is enaged in photography, freelance writing and public speaking on his experiences while on the road to recovery. Adam at the present time is the president of a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter in Northwest Ohio. He is past Junior Vice Commander of Chapter 77 of the Disabled American Veterans and serves on the Tri-County Mental Health Recovery and Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties in Ohio. Adam assists in the training of police officers throuigh the C.I.T. (Crisis Intervention Training) program. Adam also periodically addresses students at The Rhodes State College Police Academy and has done presentations at Bluffton University and Rhodes State College School of Nursing. He is also a volunteer on the psychiatric unit of St. Ritas Medical Center in his hometown and has been a guest on many radio and television programs. Adam now resides in Lima with his wife of 36 years, Mary Luma Holbrook. Adam and Mary have four grown children and two grandchildren.
