Not everyone who relocates to Ghana does or will do so on an expat salary. If you don't save enough of the foreign kwacha to purchase your own place or buy some land when you get here, you'll need to do your best to skip years of mistakes some of us made when renting - especially if you're on a lower/local salary or budget. However, if your stay isn't long, you really don't want to stay with family (for those who have family here) or you just want to experience living alone in Accra, regardless of your budget, some of these pointers will help you to enjoy your stay as much as possible. I am not a professional real estate agent, nor am I a lawyer. But I have rented in various parts of Accra over a number of years and gained enough experience to say that what is on paper is often not what you will experience. Having said that, everyone's experience of renting is different - don't take this as gospel truth, but rather as a guide on what to look out for. It's taken me, over 5 years to gather these points, read and apply and you should find a lovely spot that feels like it was made just for you. And if you don't… sorry?
