In the 1930s of Korea, poverty was a norm in either rural villages or in the cities. Of course, poverty in the remote areas was absolutely abject. It was the story of a couple who, like most others, lived miserably in the country. In the remote area between the mountains, there's not much to live on. The husband was earning a living by working as a logger in the mountains. But his income was just enough to buy daily foods for his family. Then, one day, his ugly wife told him about a traveling booze-selling business, in which they would go around selling drinks in the streets, especially to men. Because a woman serving the drinks to men was the most critical factor in that business, the husband started to educate his wife about how to serve guests' needs. So he would teach her to sing an elegant song every night when he returned home. Although the progress was slow, her enthusiasm about learning how to sing and serve the guests was applaudable. However, all these efforts and dreams of his wife went down the drain when she was caught drinking with a local man in the pub. She was carried by her husband while totally drunk. When he came home, he made a final decision about her destiny.
