At the age of 17, Hood Chronicles found his face plastered all over America in a heinous light. Facing a potential death penalty case, he was a teenager staring into the barrel of a loaded gun. A gun in which he had been holding for as long as he could remember. The question that stood as he became lost in that barrel was whether or not to pull the trigger?
Oftentimes, this is the question that most young black men have to ask themselves. Due to peer pressure, drugs, poverty, genocide, or depression, young black men have odds stacked against them so overwhelmingly high, that a right track appears to be nowhere in sight. With no father in the household, they're forced to find role models outside in the streets, or on television in some sort of exploitative industry.
For this very reason, Hood Chronicles chose to create this work. In order to give the game to the youth, to their parents, and to usher forth the dialogue in our communities that must be had for a brighter future. The need for ballplayers and rappers is dead. We need more lawyers and politicians to create and revise laws that help instead of decimate our communities. This starts at home with our youth.
Dear, Young Black Man serves as the bridge within the gap of the young and the old, lighter and the darker, nerd and the dope boy. Together, we are unstoppable, once we realize that, we won't continue to be stopped. Share the wisdom contained in these pages and teach our young thugs how to become the young KINGS they're destined to be!
