The Shadow of Death is a novel inspired by a true life story. However, its characters, surroundings and a key part of its storyline are wholly fictitious. A young man feels a moral obligation to avenge, for the sake of family honor, his father's death, which happened when he was barely six years old. Two decades later, at the age of twenty-six, destiny would present him with the opportunity of facing off with the murderer directly; only, by then, he seemed to no longer have the courage or conviction to make it happen. The end is unexpectedly moving.

Autorenporträt
JOSÉ TOMÁS PÉREZ He was born on February 14, 1956 inSantiago de los Caballeros (Dominican Republic). He has held important positions in the Dominican government: Director of Industrial Development, Director of Civil Aviation, National District Senator and currently serves as Ambassador of the Dominican Republicto the United States. From a young age he felt a strong inclination towards literature, which he began to cultivate as a college student by drafting unpublished poetry and stories. However, his dedication to politics led him to postpone for many a year his outright entry into the world of letters. In September 2018 he finally published his first novel: The people behind the wall, a 249-pager where he vividly sets forth the political and social reality that Latin American peoples endure. The shadow of death is his second novel. Through this novel, literature has again returned to occupy its rightful place in the author's life.
