"Children of December" is a kind of literary requiem for Kazakh youth, who with their bare hands opposed the soldiers with demining shovels in the tragic days of December 1986. The novel touches on such eternal questions as the people and power, faith and unbelief, patriotism and nationalism, careerism and disinterested service. A.
