A native and resident of El Paso, Texas, the author studied for the priesthood through high school and part of college and then chose to become a teacher. After eight years of teaching, he entered St. Mary's Law School in San Antonio. His legal career including serving as a municipal judge, practicing law with several of his former students and appearing before one of his former students who had become a judge. He helped create the advocacy center in El Paso and prosecutor for eighteen years in the district attorney's office. The author is married to Attorney D.J Dalton.
