The author has drawn on varied sources for this story set in Guatemala. For several years, he taught a course on the symbolism of indigenous cultures.He also visted the remote interior of Guatemala, where he experienced the indigneous lifestyle and ancient Mayan rituals. In the shamanistic culture of Guatemala, the natural world of mountains and caves can provide a portal into another dimension where one can suddenly become involved in events of cosmic proportion. Last, the author makes use of his knowledge of dreams and their intepretation to help render the archetypal world.
