Curzio Malaparte's little-known text "The Revolt of the Holy Damned" from 1921/23 serves as an example to demonstrate the literary instrumentalisation of war experiences - as is the focus of the articles within this volume. Besides Malaparte's initially autobiographical report, writings by such diverse authors as Martin Niemöller, Romain Roland, Pat Barker, Uwe Timm and members of the Swiss Army are dealt with.
