Wissenschaftliche Studie aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Politik - Region: USA, Note: gut, Freie Universität Berlin, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: On 2 August 1990 occupied the Iraqi Baath regime the small neighboring country Kuwait. The world was shocked. The United Nations and States Community demanded Dictator Saddam Hussein to withdraw his troops immediately and unconditionally from occupied country Kuwait. The Iraqi regime rejected this call, however, strictly. Thereupon an International alliance of over twenty countries under U.S. leadership was positioned to defy the violation of the Iraq’s against the International Law. With consent of the UN was then the Iraqi occupying army through a stormy war or the second Gulf War in winter 1991 chased from Kuwait and Kuwait was liberated. Immediately after the defeat of the Iraqi army or the Iraqi Baath regime began the Shias in southern Iraq and the Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan, a severely popular uprising. This uprising was however mercilessly smashed by special troops of Iraqi Baath regime with tanks and fighter helicopters before the eyes of Allied troops which yet occupied a part from Southern Iraq. Although a (Safe Haven) was established for Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan and the uprising of the Kurds could not be totally terminated, but ten thousands of Shias were killed or expelled from Iraq. In this scientific work we try primarily to explain the role of The United States of America in this war. Moreover all reasons, motives and objectives will be discussed extensively. But there will be investigated also whether the USA wanted through this war merely to liberate the Emirate Kuwait or they persecuted own objectives and had achieved them. Also the role of the western Allies and of the former Soviet Union and some Arab states and there aims will be investigated and analyzed.
