This book focuses our attention on one popular
movement in recent years, namely the ever-increasing
demand for stimulants for emotional wellbeing and
performance enhancement. Whereas, the paradoxical
response to stimulants in children with true ADHD which
is thought to be protective against misuse, the regular
ingestion of substances like Adderall® in normal
individuals can lead to abuse and life-threatening
complications particularly in our older population.
Drs. Creelman, Koo and Yvorchuk are active clinicians
caring for patients on a daily basis and members of the
faculty of the University of Florida College of Medicine.
This text contains a discussion of the gross overexpansion
of diagnosing the problem of ADHD, the
unintended consequences of over-diagnosing and overprescribing
for the condition as well as viable solutions
for the population that is currently being harmed.
