This is the diary of the Scottish captain of a Mexican rig (tug & barge) shipping bad grain that the US Government were donating (dumping) in Mexico! We were hauling it from the Mississippi River and the Houston Ship Canal "...Down Mexico Way..." to the Yucatan Peninsula. It's also the story of five different and distinct cultures: Mayan, Texan, Filipino, British and Cajun (from the Mississippi Delta) in perpetual, often confused conflict, exacerbated by the rig's mechanical and technical shortcomings which could, in an instant, turn the most ordinary of manoeuvres into a lethal game of chance. It also has its crazy comedy moments as the Scottish captain strove to make these different and distinct factions, somehow work together.
