The language of Driver is as eclectic and vibrant as the world the train workers inhabit: Filice's novel blends prose with verse, and brims with technical terms, inside jokes, abbreviations, quotations, and snatches of non-French languages spoken by the train workers. Mattia Filice has worked as a train driver in France for about two decades. Driver is his first novel. Jacques Houis is a translator, writer, editor, and former teacher in New York City. His translations include Paul Scarron's The Comic Romance, Paolo Mieli's Figures of Space, and Jean-Pierre Cléro's Lacan and the English Language.
