She experienced several wars under the French, the Vietminh, and the Americans with the Vietcong. She and John met at Nyack College and, after graduation, served in Jasper, Alabama, as their internship. Then onto their career of twenty years in Vietnam.Esther has now retired in Florida and is still serving with Samaritans Purse in her nineties, following up on donors with calls of appreciation for their donations and praying with them if there are prayer needs.
