This collective volume provides a systematic comparative appraisal of welfare-state reform trajectories across South Europe prior to and during the crisis. It brings together a number of cross-country studies on major social policy areas (pensions, healthcare, employment/labour market, family and gender) engaging in critical reflection on the consequences of austerity politics and policies that pressingly threaten the very idea of Social Europe. This book was originally published as a special issue of South European Society & Politics.
