People of all age levels form peer groups of their own. However, here, peer groups among children and youth are considered. While the world of the very young child is largely that of the parents and the home, older children and youth love in the dual world of their peer and adults. While a child at the primary school level is strongly family- oriented, the higher secondary school student is much more influenced by his peer group. Boys are much more peer oriented than girls in the higher secondary school stage, and get free from the influence of their families, with regard to their opinions and attitudes. An Adolescent spends a great deal of time with their own age-group, and the values and attitudes of their own particular set of friends within the peer-group become an important influence on their behaviour. The reasons for the growing importance of peer relationships are varied but three major areas can be distinguished. Education is a process which makes an individual to adopt himself whole heartedly for the changing environment. Education also provides an individual opportunity to acquire skills for a better living. Education further enables a person to perceive a stimulus and respond in a positive manner.
