The first section covers the body from head to toe, with separate chapters for injuries and non-traumatic disease, while the second discusses general principles relating to emergent vascular surgical practice and provides broad vascular surgical guidelines for the inexperienced surgeon. Chapters in the first section are uniformly organized, addressing incidence, etiology, and pathophysiology; clinical presentation; suggestions for workup and diagnosis; and management and treatment. Initial management, selection of pati

ents for emergent surgery, and the performance of common vascular surgical procedures are all carefully explained. The focus on a hands-on approach and practical tips will be invaluable in the clinical setting for both more experienced surgeons and newcomers to the field.

Autor

Eric Wahlberg gained an MD from Karolinska Institutet Medical School in 1988 and a PhD in Vascular Physiology from Karolinska Institutet in 1994. He received his board certification in General Surgery in Sweden in the same year and subsequently served as a Cardiothoracic Fellow at Ulleval Hospital, Norway, and a Vascular Fellow at the University of California. In his subsequent career he has been Associate Professor of Surgery at Karolinska Hospital; Section Chief, Vascular Surgery, at Uppsala University Hospital; Associate Professor in Cardiovascular Research at the Swedish Heart and Lung Foundation; Professor of Vascular Surgery at Linkoping University; and Managing Director of the Hospital for Cardiovascular Diseases, Surgery, and Oncology at Linkoping University Hospital. He has also worked as a principal medical scientific expert for Novartis Pharma AG. Dr. Wahlberg has published almost 100 original and review articles as well as four books and a number of book chapters.

He is on the editorial boards of three journals and the advisory boards of four international and five national pharmaceutical companies.

Jerry Goldstone is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University Hospital of Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
